Co-education is an issue which frequently generates a great deal heated debate, with supporters maintaining that it is vital in order to gain social equality, while opponents claim that it simply leads to social discrimination.
Firstly, schools with co-educational environment procured optimum atmosphere to share ideas and perspectives. They help students to clarify misconceptions and generate natural friendship. For instance- In a debate exercise, every single student gets equal chance to share his view. Consequently, such participation leads to feeling of equality.
Secondly, co-education structure also helps students to gain self-confidence and develops self-esteem. According to a study on co-educational structure held in Canada, researchers have found that children of both sexes gain more self-confidence and self-esteem as comparison to students of single sex schools. For example- Mutual interaction and openness helps students to present their perspective in more confident and realistic way. As a result, such attitude contributes to high confidence level and also boosts individual self-esteem.
In contrast, opponents of co-education point out that social equality is not applicable to overall education structure. It can be illustrated by the fact of sports participation. Most of the sports are dominated by boys, such as cricket, basketball and formula one sport, where girls mainly participated as cheer leaders during break sessions. As a result, such discrepancies lead to nothing but social inequality.
Furthermore, it is generally felt that co-education is not always helpful in attaining high confidence level and self-esteem. Such as, it has been noted that some girls have found themselves uncomfortable with boys around. They feel more complex and insecure during communication. Thus, it is claimed, students are not completely receptive to co-educational culture.
All things considered, it can be concluded that co-education is necessary to a certain degree. The best course of action should be followed to work out balanced development of both sexes.
